Faculty, Tutors and Counselors

Our faculty, tutors and counselors are experts in a variety of fields.

In addition to their excellent academic credentials, the faculty are dedicated to the principles of the General Studies Learning Community and to ensuring that students meet their academic goals. They work closely with students in the classroom setting and through individual tutoring.

Deazle is an alumna of the General Studies Learning Community and Adelphi’s Scholar Teacher Educational Program (STEP). Among her courses are the World of Ideas, Critical Reading and Writing, and Expository Writing.

Anthony Dotterman, Ph.D.

Dr. Dotterman earned his doctorate in English from Stony Brook University, and has an M.A. in English and American Literature from Oregon State University. His classes include Expository Writing, Critical Reading and Writing, and the World of Ideas. Dr. Dotterman researches and writes about disability, transatlantic modernism, popular culture and pedagogy.  

Faculty and Academic Tutors

Sarah Eltabib is completing a doctorate in history and an M.A. in International and Comparative Government from St. John’s University. She teaches the World of Ideas and Western Civilization I and II.

John Rizzi earned his doctorate in Social Work from Adelphi and holds an M.S.W. from New York University. His courses include Expository Writing, Critical Reading and Writing, and the World of Ideas.

Daniel Rosenberg, senior lecturer, teaches Western Civilization. He earned his Ph.D. in American History, and has published widely in his field.

Lauren Rosenblum holds a Ph.D. in English from Stony Brook University and an M.A. from New York University. She writes about the intersections between literature, visual culture, and feminism, and she also publishes on approaches to interdisciplinary college-level teaching. Her classes include Expository Writing, Critical Reading and Writing, the World of Ideas, and as well as classes on English literature and modernism.

John Vargas earned his Ph.D. at Adelphi University. He is a former Associate Professor of Mathematics at Dowling College, and has published and presented widely in the field of Mathematics. His academic honors include being listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. Dr. Vargas teaches Problem Solving Across the Curriculum. 

Deseree Wiltshire ’00, M.A. ’05, an Adelphi alumna, teaches General Psychology and works in the New York State mental health system. An accomplished dancer, she has been teaching in the General Studies Learning Community since 2009.

Academic Counselors

Deirdre Donat holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and has National Counseling Certification. She is also part of the Adelphi adjunct faculty, teaching Counseling and Psychology courses, Ethics, and Personality Theory.

Karen Sandoval ’12, M.S.W. ’13, is an alumna of Adelphi and of the General Studies Learning Community. She has had substantial experience working with students, youth, and families in Nassau County.

Ashley Vasquez ’13, M.A. ’15, is an alumna of Adelphi and of the General Studies Learning Community. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who has previously worked with the Bridges to Adelphi Program and the New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center treating children, adolescents and adults.
